Up for sale, a 1957 Gibson GA-30 tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This extremely original and well kept vintage Gibson amp comes complete with the original canvas cover and sports a pair of very clean and original Jensen speakers including a P12R primary speaker and 8 midrange driver. Driven by a pair of RCA 6V6 power tubes and a matching 5Y3 rectifier, this amp was direct competition in its day for Fender’s tweed Deluxe and Tremolux models, and tonally it’s an apt comparison. Generally darker and more meaty sounding than its Fender brethren, the GA-30 is very dynamic and touch sensitive, and smooth clean tones give way to overdriven textures that are very thick. The alnico speakers inherently have great sparkle and top end detail, and the combination of a 12″ and 8″ in a generously sized cabinet gives the sound both a great depth and a wide tonal range heard by few other amps. The circuit is very original, with stock yellow Astron tone capacitors and original transformers that date to mid 1956. The chassis itself is extremely clean, with original white silkscreen lettering on the faceplate and original dark burgundy chicken head knobs. Both Jensen speakers feature their original foil stickers, and the P12R dates to the 12th week of 1957. Cosmetically, the two-tone oxblood and speckled gray covering on the enclosure is remarkably clean, with only light wear around a few of the corners. The original oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe is also intact, and the logo on the face of the amp is partially present. While the stock handle caps are intact, the leather handle itself has worn enough over the years so as to no longer be viable, but what’s left of the leather is included. The original cover is present and fits the amp nice and snug with only one small repaired tear. We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely.
